Pens and Biting

I think we are starting to get into the interesting stage where Chandler does things and even he doesn't know why he does them.  For example, the other night we were packing and Chan was running around in the yard.  All of a sudden I couldn't find him.  I went looking for him and he was in the backyard, squatting down with his shirt over his knees trying to walk.  I remember doing this as a child but wonder where Chandler got the idea - he's only 2 1/2?    Then today we went into Rigby to run a few errands.  At one point Marshall was pumping gas and Chandler was screaming "Color!" as he saw a pen I had just put into my purse.  Being that I was still tired from working the past two nights and not thinking straight, I handed him the pen and an ATM receipt to color on.  I looked back a few minutes later to see this artwork he'd done on his legs.  Ugh.  Then he started yelling "Ouch! oohhh- Ouch!"  I look back again and he's biting himself on the knee repeatedly.  Who is this little boy?
We are all packed up and ready to leave in the morning and I'm really excited!  It was bittersweet to leave work this morning as I've made so many good friends up there.
So here I sit, knowing that I should have gone to bed an hour ago, but instead I've been catching up on blogs and popping swedish fish one after the other. (after eating a couple of your fish last night, I was craving them today Melody :) ).....ah dang - the candy's gone, guess I will go to bed.
I'll check in once we're settled in our apartment and have our internet hooked up!

Enjoying the Sunshine

We've had a few playdates outside this week and it's been so nice! We got this fun pool for Chandler last week so he had some friends come play yesterday and today. It has a slide and little sprayers around the side. It was a nice break from packing to sit and visit with some of my good friends and let Chandler play. On Wednesday Shelli came over with her two little girls - Shayli (4) & Teri (almost 2) Shelli & I have been good friends since our sophomore year of High School. She lives just a couple miles from my mom's house so it's been fun to do playdates and catch up here and there.

5 months old!

Sitting up!  He can sit up for about 5 seconds before he topples over.

Today Sara, Carson & Jonas came over. Carson & Chandler played in the pool, jumped on the trampoline, and fought with swords (such a boy thing.)

Giving hugs!

I'm so excited to move but it is a little bittersweet as we have good friends that live up here and it's always hard to get out of your comfort zone and make new friends when you move to a new area.  I know we'll come back lots and visit though since both our parents live here.

We have probably 70% of our stuff packed though, which is nice.   We found a nice 3 bedroom apartment right by Thanksgiving point.  It's only a half a mile from Marshall's work which will help with gas as prices are ridiculous right now.  I work all weekend and we plan on moving Tuesday.

Squishy Face

Marshall was squishing Rowan's face tonight and Rowan thought it was pretty funny and was smiling about it. He wasn't smiling in this pic, but it was the only good one we got. Looks a bit like an old woman, right? :)

New Nephew!

Marshall's brother Chris & his wife Natalie had a baby boy, Jacob on June 6th. He was 8 lbs 6 oz and 21" if I remember right. We went to his baby blessing yesterday and spent the afternoon at Chris & Natalie's home. He's a really sweet content baby and I'm sure Rowan will be glad to have a buddy his age to run around with when they get older. (I took a couple pics from Natalie's blog for your viewing pleasure.)

Letter Factory

I got this dvd off slickdeals for $3 about 6 months ago.  Chandler loves to watch it and knows all his letter sounds now!  Good investment.

Somewhat broken

Marshall took Chandler & Rowan to the stampede parade in Rigby today.  I stayed home to sleep as I worked last night.  Marsh brought Rowan home after the parade to me and took Chandler over to his parent's house.  He then went golfing with his brother and dad.  Rowan wouldn't nap when Marsh brought him home, so I fed him and got on the computer so I could upload some pictures from our camera.  I couldn't find our camera so I called Marsh to ask him where it was at.  He acted really funny about it but said he had taken it with him and it was in the diaper bag at his parent's house.  After trying to get Rowan asleep for a while again, I finally decided just to go over to my in-laws and hang out there.  I got there and went looking for the camera.  When I turned it on, I got that bottomless pit feeling in my stomach.  The LCD screen was a combination of black and white and the picture resembled shattered glass.  This camera has been pretty dependable.  We got it a little over two years ago and paid about $250 for it.  I took a bunch of pictures in hopes that it would still somewhat work.  When we got home, I plugged it in and found that it still takes pictures, I just can't view the screen.  This also means that I can't change the pixels, the mode, delete pictures, etc.  We really can't justify getting a new camera right now as we have to buy a washer and dryer for our apartment in Lehi and will probably be getting a new tv when we move down there.  Plus there's moving expenses, first month's rent - you get the idea.  I'm just mad but guess I should be glad it still works at all.

In trying to figure out what happened I thought back to when I posted last Wednesday.  I left the camera on the couch and it fell in between the cushions.  That next day when we went to use the recliner on the couch, we heard a horrible grinding sound.  I looked under it and found a VHS copy of  Tarzan that had essentially been beheaded.

I'm guessing since the camera was there it took a beating too.  I guess I'm glad it still works.  I just have to look through the tiny view finder like it's a 35 mm camera.   Guess we'll put a new camera on our  "wish list"

A trip with many "firsts"

As mentioned in the previous post we took a trip down to Utah Monday & Tuesday for a job interview. It was a trip that held many "firsts" for us. On our way down, our little Ford Focus hit 100,000 miles. Marshall and I were all excited to watch it turn but I was on the phone with my sister when it happened and we didn't even realize until we were 6 miles over. I guess you could say it's the first and only time the car will hit 100,000 miles, but it was still a first, right?
We stayed with Avry and got down there at about 7:30. It was a BEAUTIFUL evening, and really the first night that we have really enjoyed an evening outside this summer. Justin grilled porkchops so we ate and played outside for a while.

On Tuesday we headed down to Lehi for Marshall's job interview.  We didn't realize Thanksgiving Point was in Lehi until we got there and I noticed that they had a dinosaur museum.  I planned on taking Chandler to the museum while Marshall was interviewing.  When we got there and realized it would be $18 for just Chandler and I to go we decided to walk around instead.  We found a little farm that they have there and it was much cheaper to get in.  I think Chandler enjoyed it just as much.

They had different farm animals and he especially loved the cows.  I don't know why it is a favorite of his.  The other night I told Chan he smelled like a cow because he had a dirty diaper.  He started mooing which was pretty funny.  Chandler also got to go on a pony ride while he was there - it was his first time on a horse, (or I guess a pony since it was only about 3 feet off the ground)  He loved it!  I tried to get a video but it's super fuzzy so don't run and get your glasses, it's our camera.

On our way home we stopped to get dinner and I noticed a Krispy Kreme down the road.  I've never actually been to one so Marshall sweetly complied to take me there to get a doughnut.  One word to explain the hot ones they give you when you walk in: Heaven.  It was amazing and pretty much made my day, lol.  My first fresh Krispy Kreme, and it will NOT be my last, lol.

So it was a great trip full of firsts.....which I'm sure will not be lasts - as we are exploring our next "first" by moving down there!  Marshall was extended a job offer today and took it!  We are so excited and are looking for a place as he is supposed to start work on the 30th.  We are thinking we will rent for 6 months or so and then look for a house in the area.  Marshall is really impressed with the company, C.H. Robinson. The job has wonderful benefits and Marsh is really excited to start. They are flying him out to Minneapolis for 2 weeks to their headquarters to do a training. We feel so blessed and are excited to be in the Salt Lake area as I have a brother and sister down there & Marshall has extended family as well. It feels nice to finally know what we will be doing and where we will be going.  (So Matt & Shannon - does this mean we beat you out of the ward?)

Sewing?......nah

Yesterday we were getting ready to take a trip down to Salt Lake for a job interview. I was trying to clean, get packed, and do a massive amount of laundry before we left. Marshall showed me that he was missing a button on his shirt and I told him I'd fix it if I had time. I'm not such a great seamstress, but I do know how to sew a button on. My mom is amazing at sewing so she did a lot for us growing up. Guess it was never really my forte. Maybe someday. My last big sewing project was in 9th grade, a polar fleece pullover I made in a sewing class. Half of it looked awful, the part I sewed. My friend Camille sewed the other half when she realized how hopeless I was. When I brought it home, my mom picked off the sleeve that I had sewn on and re-did it right. Guess it's not cool to have your sleeves two different lengths? Anyways, I got really caught up in what I was doing and a while later, Marshall came up to me. Here's how our conversation went:

Marsh: "I fixed my shirt!"

Me: "Great - you sewed it back on?"

About now, Marshall gets this mischevious grin on his face and I wasn't expecting what he was about to say or show me.

Marsh: "No, I just stapled it!"

This comment was definitely worthy of an eyebrow raise followed by much laughter on my part. Come to find out he'd also stapled the cuff at the bottom of his sleeve too. He sure seemed proud of his innovative way to hold his shirt together. Now if that isn't a man thing, I don't know what is!

Wrong Lyrics

Have any of you been absolutely sure of lyrics just to find out you've been singing them wrong for a LONG time? Every time I'm changing Chandler's diaper I sing to him, "Stand up, baby, stand up..." when we are all done. I knew it was a song but wasn't sure what song it was, so I've always sang it to him that way. I kept asking different people if they knew what song it was and Marshall was pretty sure I just made it up. When Jeralee was here last week she recognized the song I started singing and said Charlise (her daughter) even had learned a dance at school to go along with it. Jeralee started busting out doing the dance and it was pretty funny watching her do it. I looked it up and realized the lyrics are, "Hands up, baby hands up" NOT stand up. Oops. So the song is "Hands Up" by Ottawan. Chandler sings the song now when we change his diaper, guess I should start singing the right lyrics with him. I found this on youtube and love the 80's-ness of it. Take care to watch the men with the gold sequined vests, tight white pants & long ponytails. They are my favorite, ROTFL.... I was only 3 when this song came out. Love it, LOL

Fun Facts - June

In a way, this blog has been a journal for me. Of course I wouldn't reveal my deepest thoughts as they would be free for everyone to read (yeah right!) but I thought it would be fun to look back on the boys and recognize anything new they've started doing or funny & memorable stories we have about them every month or two. Marshall's mom has always had a journal for all of her kids and it's fun looking back and reading what Marshall was like as a baby and child. So here we go:

Chandler:

* He's started talking a lot more in the last few months. He will parrot pretty much anything we say and is saying 2-3 word phrases now! Yay!

*Although Chandler is far from being potty trained, he's starting to recognize when he goes. Last month when we were in Boise, he was sitting in the back of the car when we had a funny little conversation.
Chandler: "Uh oh!"
Me: "What happened?"
Chandler: "Poop happen!"
Marshall: "It's ok, poop happens sometimes."
Chandler was quite distraught about the whole situation and kept talking about it. Marshall and I were laughing so hard.

*Chan has loved to kiss Rowan from day one and still kisses him many many times each day.

*Right now he's really into: Mickey Mouse, Baby Einstein. Curious George, Sesame Street & Elmo, Swords, Climbing Trees, Books, Spaceships & Cars.

* He is a big eater, especially when it comes to meat. Sometimes I don't know how he can pack it away.

*His treats of choice are Oats & Honey Granola Bars, Marshmallows, Chocolate Chips, & of course his favorite - Ice Cream.

*He would spent all day outside if he could.

*He can count from 1 to 5 and 8-14.  Don't know what happened to 6 and 7...  He's also starting to recognize his colors and especially fond of green.

*He loves taking baths and getting into the hot tub.

*When he's looking for someone or something he always says, "I find it! I find it!"

*At birth Chandler was 9 1lbs 1 oz & 22 inches. At 2 1/2 he is 29.5 lbs and about 36 1/2 inches.

*Since Marshall has been spending lots of time with Chan, he has definitely become a daddy's boy.  Chan loves to wrestle and go outside with him.

Rowan:

*I thought Chandler was a content baby but Rowan is even better. He VERY rarely cries and smiles a lot.

*When he starts getting hungry he whines and makes a noise that sounds like, "I need - I need!"

*He's still waking up 2-3 times at night but goes right back to sleep after he eats.

*He's started grasping and playing with toys a lot the last 3 weeks. He's content to lay on the floor and explore a new toy or his surroundings.

*When he is on our lap if we pick something up he tries to grab for it even though he doesn't know why he wants it.

* When he wakes up in the night he's all smiles and grins and coos when he sees us.

*Foods he's tried: Rice Cereal, Carrots, & Green Beans. (Uncle Jason also tried to feed him apple cobbler while he was here this last week and got in big trouble, lol.) Not quite ready for that one yet.

*He is ticklish on his feet, thighs, tummy, neck, and the funny one - the palms of his hands.

*He cut his first two teeth a week before he turned 4 months. (The bottom two)

*At Birth he was 8 lbs 14 oz and 20 1/2 inches. At 4 1/2 months he is around 16 lbs and 26 inches tall.

*He's got hair just like Chandler had as a baby, dark blonde and super fuzzy.
